I've always been intrigued by the playfulness of the text in Herbert Brokering's hymn, Earth and All Stars. The hymn contains couplets like: "Engines and steel, loud pounding hammers" or "Classrooms and labs, loud boiling test tubes, athlete and band, loud cheering people." Curious how church goers would respond to the challenge of adding to this song I asked members of the congregation of Trinity Cathedral Portland to write their own verses. A selection of the verses were sung over a period of 2 months during worship at Trinity.
